Reminders, widgets and Siri
Know when to leave, wake up in time, see the countdown on your Lock Screen, and ask Siri about the light.
Remind Me: when to leave
- Open a shot, tap ··· and turn on Remind Me. For a trip, use Remind Me in the trip's menu.
- For a shot, set Extra Time to Walk In: the time from parking to being set up at the spot. For a trip stop, edit the stop and set Walk in & set up.
- Photinerary works out the drive from where you'll be (for a trip stop, the stop before it) and tells you when it's time to leave.
Wake-up alarms
For an early start, Photinerary can set a real alarm that sounds even in a Focus mode. Choose when that applies in Settings › Reminders › Wake-up alarm, for example for anything leaving before 6 AM.
The golden-hour countdown
On the day, a countdown can sit on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. It counts down to leaving, then to the light, then through golden or blue hour with a progress bar, and shows sunset and blue-hour times.
- Start it from a shot with ··· › Countdown on Lock Screen.
- Or tap Start Countdown on a leave-by reminder notification, for a shot or a trip stop.
iOS only allows a countdown to start while the app is open, which is why the notification's button opens Photinerary briefly.
Widgets
- Today's Light
- Sunrise, golden hour, sunset and the moon where you are.
- Next Shoot
- Your upcoming shots and trip stops, and when to leave.
- Touch and hold the Home Screen (or Lock Screen, or the Mac desktop) and tap Edit › Add Widget.
- Search for Photinerary and choose a widget and size.
In a Smart Stack, the widgets rise to the top in the run-up to golden hour and an hour before you need to leave.
Calendar
Use Add to Calendar on a shot, or Add Trip to Calendar on a trip, to put them in your calendar with their places and times.
Siri, Spotlight and Shortcuts
Try saying:
- "Golden hour at Palisade Head in Photinerary"
- "When's sunset at Split Rock in Photinerary"
- "What's my next shoot in Photinerary"
- "Add Split Rock to a trip in Photinerary"
- "Plan a shot with Photinerary"
Use the names of your own saved places. With Pro, Community catalog places work too PRO. Your locations, shots and trips also appear in Spotlight search, and the same actions are available in the Shortcuts app to build your own automations.
On iOS 27, "What's this?" in Visual Intelligence, pointed at a lighthouse, waterfall or bridge, offers your saved places of that kind, and with Pro the nearest catalog places too.
